A Showing of the Film, Blind Trust
Israel and Palestine. Irish Catholics and Protestants. Serbs / Croats / Bosniaks. Hutus and Tutsis. Shia and Sunni. India and Pakistan. Red States / Blue States…
Across the globe, the most intractable and violent conflicts involve communities that share what psychoanalyst Vamik Volkan has termed “large group identity,” the enduring, emotionally charged sense of belonging to a vast group, maintained through shared symbols, narratives, and transgenerationally transmitted traumas and glories which become powerfully activated under conditions of perceived threat.
Blind Trust is a film about large group identity and the extraordinary work of Volkan and others to bring an analytic perspective to adversaries in traumatized regions of the globe.
